Synopsis... Dorothy Gale, like so many girls her age, dreams of what lies beyond her small Kansas home. One day, a twister unexpectedly carries her "Over the Rainbow" where she finds herself in the Land of Oz. Much to her surprise, her house has landed on the Wicked Witch of the East, killing her, causing the Munchkins of Munchkinland to declare her an instant heroine. Unfortunately, the Wicked Witch of the West is not so happy about her sister's death and vows to end Dorothy's travels in order to retrieve her sister's ruby slippers, which Dorothy now wears. Confused and homesick, Dorothy is instructed by Glinda, the Good Witch of the North, to follow the Yellow Brick Road to find the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, for he is the only one who can help her find her way home. Dorothy soon meets three new friends-the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodsman, and the Cowardly Lion-who agree to accompany her on her journey to meet the Wizard for wishes of their own. They soon encounter many obstacles set by the Wicked Witch, but are rescued by Glinda and reach the gates of the Emerald City where the great and powerful Wizard sends them on a mission to kill the witch. Triumphantly, Dorothy and her friends evade the Witch's traps and melt her into oblivion. Back in Oz, the Wizard grants the wishes of the Scarecrow (a brain), Tin Woodsman (a heart), and Cowardly Lion (bravery), while Dorothy learns that she's had the power to return home all the time. The score includes "Over the Rainbow," "If I Only Had a Brain," "We're Off to See the Wizard," "If I Were King of the Forest " and "Ding Dong, the Witch is Dead." The Wizard of Oz is presented through special arrangement with Tams-Witmark Music Library. Cast...
